Aerodynamic Study of the Neva Twin Cable-Stayed Bridge

This paper deals with aerodynamic study of the Neva Cable-Stayed Bridge, St. Petersburg, Russia. The bridge will be act as new attraction of the town and its construction is well underway. Aerodynamically dominating features of this bridge include light-weight steel box structures (deck and pylons), span-length of 382 m and twin bridge configuration. Of special interest are fluid couplingeffects due to adjacent decks, performance of the double box cross-section, vortex shedding and

cable vibrations. Rigorous analysis is conducted employing wind-tunnel testing of full models, analytical calculations and monitoring. The calculations, using state-of-the-art frequency-domain methods to each phenomenon, are conducted both independently and parallel with wind-tunnel testing. Analysis results are being verified through continuous long-term monitoring at construction stage. A close insight to aerodynamic performance of the bridge and reliability of analysis methods
are obtained, resulting some experiences and observations for wider scope.
